| Some say he's a mythical super-hero only living in the La Sal's and is propelled by excess guadalajara derived flatulence - some may attest to this as well!!! but for those of you who may have seen the Captain racing down to the Fisher Valley Camp - my condolences to you for the damage he may have done to your olfactory system!!! . . . . Until next year - - Just remember only short Cape's are good for Mountain Biking!!! Those long super-man style capes tend to get stuck in your deraileur, chain - that's why super-man doesn't ride a bike!!! |

| Back home-mont!! |
| Recommendations: If you wanna do extra singletrack in addition to making SAG you better 1) Get Up Early 2) Bring a compass 3) BRING MAPS - they show all the single track in the area that you "could" concern yourself with, 4) Bring as many replaceable parts (THINK CHAIN LINKS, derailuer hangers, lube - that type of stuff), 5) Crank brothers multi-19 tool (you won't be unhappy with it), 6) KEY - REALLY understand how to fuel and recover yourself well each day 7) carry a good first-aide kit, 8) Be prepared to ride-into SAG and camp on the later side of the day which translates into carry'ing extra water/energy drink & food in your pack, on your bike, in your shorts, and 9) carry your own or your friends charged cell phone turned off - so you can call for help - if you get in over your head, 10) NEVER RIDE THE NON-KOKOPELLI's SINGLETRACK ALONE or if your not sure where your going to end up because your basically guarantee'ing that your going to get yourself lost and/or hurt or worse and ultimately left behind!!!!!! Alex will describe that to you.

| On the trail again, just can't wait to get on the trail again, the life I love is ridin' singletrack with my friends - oh I just can't wait to get on the trail again. The Longmont crew is packing it up today and heading out early tomorrow. We're hoping to be in Fruita early afternoon. We're planning to go out to 18 Road for a ride. If you're interested in joining us meet at the Aspen Street Coffee shop around 2p. After riding the tradition is to hit Guadalajara for a pre-ride feast. This feast should fulfill the burrito requirement talked about in the ride chat. See you all tomorrow! |

| One week baby! Oh yeah. I've started making the tune-up list and getting the rig koko-fied. Also started laying out my gear and making my shopping list. I have one quick training question. Are we supposed to stop training 7 days in advance or is it something like 3? Also, I'm willing to make a reservation at Guadalajara in Fruita if folks would like to do a pre-ride dinner on Wednesday the 30th. We, the Longmont Crew, are planning to arrive in Fruita early afternoon and hopefully get a quick 18 road ride in followed by a celebratory dinner at Guadalajara. |

| Ha! That's 10 hours for 45 miles not the whole 140. :) And even that may be a longshot for me. Besides, I need people in front of me for the video.

| Tires - 10 Hour Day (2008-04-18) |
| Yeti-Mclovin\' |
| Wow-mont! |
| 10 hours from Fruita to Moab ;o) . . . I don't think the question is . . "what kind of tires are you going to ride on" . . . but more . . "what kinda Jet Pack do you use!!!" :o) Or maybe along the same lines what kinda' beans do you put in your burrito's!!!!!
I agree . . . forget the tire stuff just ride the trail . . .
However, urban legend has it that the perfect MTB tire for all conditions was made by a guy in living in Minot, ND. . . but like the high fuel effic. car it was immediately snubbed out by OPEC!!! :o)
See you all on the trail!! |
| What? (2008-04-18) |

| I really don't get what all the fuss about tires is. I have run the same tires on every trail I ride and it was never an issue. Stop fussin' and just ride what ya got.
BTW... I'll be the one clocking in a 10 hour day. :)

| GJ, CO |
| oops forgot to add this to the last post. I will be bringing my sub-foot accuracy GPS that runs ArcPad software (mobile GIS) to try and map the route, assuming I do not run out of batteries. That way I can do some cool things with the routes in a GIS that I keep with trails on it. What I wonder is what format those guys from GJmountainbiking like do they like shapefiles or are they a Garmin bunch? I suppose I could ask them. |
| Tires? (2008-04-18) |
| GrandJunctionite |
| GJ, CO |
| I am going to ride without tires just rims... no not really. I for one do not see many advantages to running different tires for the multitude of terrains we will see. Meaning, I have tried many, many different tires/rims sizes etc and they all accomplish the same thing- they get you from point A to point B. I think the biggest thing for the heavy crowd would be 2.4 in the front and at least 2.35 in the rear. For the guys and gals on the lighter side you too would be doing yourself favor with at least 2.3s. Personally I am a bit of a freak and run Maxxis Advantage in the front (2.4) and Specialized Eskar in the rear (2.35).Then again I may be one of the heaviest people on the ride at a slim 260...so if I pass you be ready to be heckled. (Trip #2) |

| Thanks Alex.
I exchanged emails with a fella from GJMountainbiking.com. He said there was a moto link, but it tends to be sandy in that area and so he has never ridden it. He wished us good luck and asked that we get way points for mapping. So maybe we'll give it a whirl on Day 2 or, if time and energy permit scope it out on Day 1. Thanks in advance for all your continued hardwork on organizing this fun and challenging event. |

| I'll be running Maxxis Minion DHF 2.35's regardless of conditions. These are what I roll best on regardless of conditions and since there's talk of sand and varied conditions? . . . Well they'll float better than most and if it comes to speed uphill, hey - it's not the K.T.R. I'm just going to enjoy the ride - I'll see ya on the downhill's :o) and you'll hear me grunting in the back of the pack on the uphill's I guess ;o) |

| The guy with the clipboard |
| Boulder |
| Moab clocked 23 degrees as a low last nite. Will probably be 80 today. Go figure. Looks like the tire questions are starting again - just a note on the mud, EVERY tire will muck heavily in that adobe mud, there's no magic tread for it. Yes the TOTW trail overlooks Fisher Valley camp, no you're not connecting the two without a parachute. About a connector from the Overlook Trail to the railroad Trestle on day 2 (Ryan, Chris), I scoped it out and there's got to be a moto track that connects them, ending about 1.5 miles above the railbridge on the pavement. This is a job for Fruita Frank. |
| Re Tires (2008-04-17) |
| Viking |
| Longmont, CO |
| I've done the ride twice. First year on Verticals and last year on Weirwolves, both were 2.35's. There is less technical riding on days 2 & 3 so your Verticals would probably be better. I remember spinning out alot on day 1 with my Verticals. They float in sand ok but I remember walking a lot. Last year we had lots of mud and the Weirwolves caked up - thank god for disc brakes. So if rain is forecasted you'll want to run something that sheds mud/rocks/etc. I'm hoping for no mud this year as I'll be running Weirwolves again. My reasons for running Weirwolves are these: 1. because I like them and 2 because I'm too cheap to go buy different tires.
Hope this helps. |
| Tires Again (2008-04-17) |
| Rob |
|
| I have made my decision, but I still want to put this out there. I have 2 sets of Tubeless tires I use on my bike.
1) Continental Vertical - 2.3
2) Maxxis High Rollers -2.35
I like the Maxxis the best as far as all around performers. I like them on the technical rock sections for they're grip. They seem to corner better than the Continentals. For the type of trail riding I like best they are very good for me. The problem I have with them is they don't roll very well.
The Continentals are lighter (by 1/2 pound) and roll noticeably better. It's easier to climb with them. They work much better in the snow. They clean out much better than the Maxxis.
I weigh about 160lbs and run my tires around 25lbs + or -
I've heard so many different opinions of the terrain I'm confused. Right now I am going to use the Continentals. I have Stans in them and will probably use 23 to 24 in the front and 25lbs in the back.
Is there so much double track and jeep road in this ride that if my tires don't roll well the ride will suck? Or is there enough technical riding to make me glad I brought the High Rollers?
Let me know what you think of the terrain, if you have done this ride before. |

I rode full sus last year in the second group, and if it stops snowin' in the Vail Valley and get in some road miles-not just my trainer , I hope to rock my Niner SS this year. Using two cogs in the back for the climbs on the last two days. Anyone else stupid enough to SS it this year? |

| Hope you all had an awesome weekend riding. I hit the cold and wind on Sat. and headed to Heil from Longmont, then to Hall, Rabbit, and home again. After hearing Mike, Chris, and the Viking talk about the ride conditions a year ago - I'm hoping that unecessarily subjecting my body to the effects of the wind and cold weather will appease the Kokopelli weather spirit's and will bring weather good-fortune to all Pelli'ers during the May 1-3 ride!! There was virtually no one on the trails in Nothern Boulder County on Sat. afternoon - which was eery. Less than three weeks to go!!!!!! |

Hmmmmm. All in all it was a good ride, great trail conditions and ahem, highway conditions :o) I'm sure the traffic at all three trailheads is ridiculous with this awesome weather today - virtually no one was out yesterday I didn't meet 1 person coming down from the Nelson loop yesterday around 4:30 P.M. ~~ almost eeeery!!!!

| Chris,
I talked to Mike and we've agreed that doing the Longmont - Heil - Hall - Rabbit - Longmont will be on the slate instead of heading to Gowdy - I need some time in the saddle and not in the drivers seat . . . So unless the weather really deteriorates in the front range and we get a butt load of snow this ride should be a go. I think I'd leave my place around 8:30 A.M. on Sat. A.M. - meet you at 8:50 A.M. - then meet Mike around 9:05 A.M. then head to Heil - then to Hall - then to Rabbit. Any thoughts Chris? |

| I cannot believe Dewey's gone. This is surely a sad day for the folks in the region and for anyone who has done the Koko. The bridge was a landmark that everyone wrote about. Having worked in Historic Preservation i hope Grand County will be able to secure funds to rebuild and memorialize the bridge. I also hope the boy who burned the bridge is provided counseling for his actions. Burning is the first indicator of abuse and control problems.

| Bad bad news everyone. I just heard and seen that the beautiful historic Dewey bridge that we've all revered and loved and photographed has burned down, gone, finito last night. The quintessential midwayish icon where the Colorado river and the Kokopelli trail intersect was burned down by a boy playing with matches. Great.... if you've never seen it or got to ride across...you never will. Sorry. Coming out of Yellow Jacket, it was the perfect setting for lunch before the big climb. This sucksssssss. |

| Chris,
I called a local bike shop in Laramie to check conditions and they said two weeks ago Curt Gowdy was ridable. It has since snowed but no recent reports were available. I have business in Laramie next week and will get a current update.
I would would be up to ride the area but will only be able to ride the weekend of the 13th. I am heading to SD on the 18 & 19 to ride the Black Hills. (And see family)
Regarding the wind in Wyoming....They use a log chain for a wind sock in that state. :-) |

| It's been pretty windy and dry up there and willing to bet it would be quite similar to our front range, but will do some checking this week and post back later. It will be so convenient to get a group of people for a Wyoming trip since everyone on the Kokopelli is from Longmont. It's a 1:30 drive straight up North. This new security/spam stuff would work great on the border |

| Curt Gowdy Wyoming tour on the 13th or 20th? I love this place. SSSSingletrack built by the pro's for mtbers. An easy 50 miles (riding in both directions) of horseless techy twisty and tight trails through fun rock gardens and beautiful meadows and aspen groves. See, uhhum, my pics on the vedauwoo jack trip and let's go ride the best kept secret on the front range. Can be windy. Guaranteed to put your legs and lungs in order for the trip. I doubt we'll see more than 20 people on the trail. Anyone??? |

| I've been riding maxxis ignitors tubless 2.35 for over a year now and have had 1 flat that i was able to reinflate trailside. These tires are great all around and love the desert (as Ryan and I got to pound this weekend) Great sand float, not very sticky with mud(hey what isn't?) wet traction over smooth rocks is ok, good rolling. Advantage tires are my next choice I'd like to try. Maxxis in general are better tires than most. A little expensive but will give you quite the optimal experience trailside. Now if they could just get me some tubless 29ers.... |
| Kenda Small Block Eight Tires (2008-04-03) |
| sdsantacruzer |
| Longmont |
| Rode them from Longmont to Hall Ranch last weekend and back. The rolling resistance on the pavement was superb. I like the fact they have a wide range inflation capacity. 30psi to 80 psi I ran them at 45 psi for that ride. The conditions at Hall were excellent on Saturday so any tire would have worked well. IMO
Rode Hall again yesterday with them at 35 psi and was impressed. They are a little sketchy on rock surface mixed with gravel. Like Hall can offer. They also pick up and hold mud if the mud is sticky. But performed well overall. I am really concerned about the thickness of the tire. They are built light and give up some of the thickness beneath the tread. I have had two flats already.
I am going to do the same route this weekend and add in Heil. We'll see how they perform with the loose rocky terrain Heil offers.
After watching the videos of the Kokpelli on this web site I am inclined to ride my Maxxis Advantage. We'll see. |

| Just got back from Moab/Fruita. Chris and I had a grand time. Hit Klondike Bluffs and the Slick Rock practice loop. Weather and other life commitments kept the rides short. Vail Pass closed monday shut us out from going home. Found that out in Fruita so we hit Mary's Loop and Horse Thief Bench. We got to watch the sun set on the Colorado and enjoy a cold Dales in the parking lot. Colorado is awesome. It got my blood pumping for Bikerpelli. And, it will get me through my last 7 or eight spin classes.......

Has anyone rode the Kenda Small Block Eights? They are not super aggressive and probably not for rocky techy stuff but on a long ride they appear to provide a more efficient rolling resistance.
I am going to try them out on Hall Ranch tomorrow. |

| Except for the first 1/2 day which is rocky, the trails and fire roads will be dry and loose. If you weigh 150 or less then a 2.0 tire will work. If you weigh more including a camelback full of stuff then you should consider bigger tires. 2.3 tires both front and back work well. The trails are dry now and in a few weeks they will be really soft. Ask Alex and remember he weighs 140 lbs. in a rain storm. |

Instead of riding. Hit Hall Sunday afternoon saw a couple people but it was kinda cold ~ went from 48 in Lyons to about 34 on top of the Nelso loop as the weather set in. Both temps are tropical for North Dakota so my blood must still carry a little ND anti-freeze in it as I was the one wearing shorts and a jersey while it was dumping sleet and snow :o). | I'd go big all around. But, I'm also into options so I'd bring the skinny tire in case it's drier than usual making it sandier than usual. The fatties will be great for the first half of the first day. It could be sandy - no - it will be sandy in the PM of the first day and when we hit Yellow Jacket on the second day. Both sandy sections are after sag so you'd have the chance to swap your fatty rear for the skinny sand burner at sag. I think the fatty up front and the skinny out back would probably be a good option. ALthough I don't think it would be necessary. Point is I've only used wide tires on the two times I've ridden it. Rico road 2.0 kenda's last year. He is blazing fast and a bit of a weight weeny so he went ummmm narrrow?!... He blazed through the sand with the skinnies. Most of the riding I do on the Front Range is almost exactly like the terrain we'll be riding on the Koko. So the Weirwolves are great tires. You can get them narrow and that might be a good option. I'll be running the 2.3's only because that's what I have and I'm to cheap to buy a new set of tires. For what its worth I hope this helps. |

| Weirwolves work really well. I ran continental verticals the first year and spun out a lot. Last year the Weirwolves were great in the mud and sand. I hear of a legend of some guys from Ohio who on the morning of the second day switched out their tires for slicks, then switched back to knobbies at dewey bridge for the climb to the top of the world. Does anyone else remember that story? |

| Maria,
You want to check out Cold Springs Racks (http://www.adventurecycling.org/store/category.cfm?Category=21). They make the rack to fit most frames without rack eyelets, including dual suspension by using wheel axle as attaching point.
Because you have a support vehicle to carry water and food, and don't have to carry a whole lot of gear, maybe it makes sense to have a rack with panniers if possible.
From my experience, the trailer was better when there was a lot to carry because it did not put the load on the bike. On the other hand, it adds one more wheel to control.
Anyway, whichever you choose, I wish you a great trip. |

At least in MN I knew it was going to be cold all winter with intermitent 30 deg. days!!! Oh well everything has it's place. Ran a few miles on Sunday despite the weather but it'll be interesting to see how Coyote Ridge fared through the highwinds and drifting - I'm thinkin' there will be some muddy and icy sections again in the valley's on Indian Summer and maybe the Blue Sky section between Lowry and Coyote Ridge Cutoff??? | Maria,
I'd suggest stowing as much gear as you can where-ever you can and carry as little as possible. I think pulling a trailer would cut down on a lot of the fun, considering you're riding single track and bouncing down fairly rough double track. I'd suggest carrying the bare minimum. There are road segments but the majority of it is off road jeep trail and double track. I can't think of anything in MSP/MN that would be similarly rough. Maybe Yetti-Mclovin has some thought on that. I'd stick to a backpack. I think the camping areas Alex has reserved time and again are great. If you are bent on carrying your own tent camping supplies etc, I'd spend one night camped out on the Western Rim trail (if camping is allowed there). Alex has written a book that details the ins and outs of the Kokopelli. You should check in with him. I hope this is helpful. I'm playing the Gear Daddies - Dream Vacation - in honor of your trip. |

I have a BOB trailer and would like carry my gear in the trailer (my frame can't accomodate a rear rack). My riding partner will probably have a rear rack and panniers. We plan to ride the trail in 4 days, with ride support (water/food drop offs and gear exchange) so we don't have to carry all of our gear the entire way. |

| The Blue sky is in great shape as of Sunday. A little snow last night but it won't last more than a day with temps. Dust was getting blown around on Sun it was so dry. It could of been the Longmont crew going by really fast also! Just don't go past the tunnel at the rez. I always go to the campsites to regroup and took the trail over. Complete spooge all the way. Take the road at the tunnel or uturn. After riding the kokopelli 3x's, I've learned lots about my capabilities. For me, I've determined that mileage plus intensity (and riding similar terrain and climbing) is key to training. In the end I do spend a lot of hours on the bike, but at least I know I can cover oh so many miles in that time no matter what kind of conditions and get from point a to b in a huffy if I have to. Again, for me, I feel the training schedule you get from Bikerpelli should be used as a minimum and strive for a lot more if possible in order to ride strong. Also, your choice of seat can be as important as the beer selection. Bring your personal seat if your renting a bike and make sure you are accustomed to being on it for a long time to know if it's the right choice for a long bumpy ride. Nothing can make your day better if all else is going wrong..... |

| Rico and I took the shuttle the first year. Grinding up that climb would have been better. The shuttle was slow and took a long time. My goal is to do a litttle extra training and grind out the climb. I agree with Frank's equation. Cleaning greater than ride time equals spin class. Yetti Mclovin' should get himself to a spin class. |

| I would say that the Top of the world trail intersection is around halfway up or less.(the easy half) The guys driving the shuttles in the past had stopped at that point for some people and then continued up to the top. If you think that section is boring, try the middle ring next time on Alejo's advice. That's the first "big" climb and precursor to even bigger climbs and has been quite a rewarding section to complete with the insane drop right afterwards. And if it snows or something that night, you'll wish you had climbed it. Go big in '08... |

Is that shuttle up from Dewey's Bridge to about the "Top of the World" junction? If so, according to the Topo, it's only elimanates about 800 ft of climbing. (AND I appreciate the shuttle.) I remember from a previous Bikerpelli/Kokopelli trip, the climb up the Bluff was EXTREMELY boring and totally uninteresting.
From the Topo, it looks like the 1st Cottonwood Canyon, is a bit beyond the Top of the World Jct by maybe a half a mile. Is that the drop off point?
thanks,

If there's anyone who would like to help with filming off the bike shots (technical sections) just speak up and I'll bring a second camera.

OH. Inevitably someone will bring up the topic of Tires, so I'll crack that egg now. I think the optimum width is 3.5. I rode WTB Weirwolves last year and they were great! Even in the snow, mud and rain. The year before I rode Continental Verticals. These were 3.0, I think. | I don't know Ryan. It's a tough call. Ever since I got mine 4 mos ago I've ridden my fully once. But this is a long ride and lot's of mixed terrain. The one time I rode my fully was in Moab and I was glad I had it. Maybe Eric will bust it out this year. One very valid point for a rigid ss 2niner is my derailer went kaput on day 2 in onion creek mud and had to middle ring it all the way up which I would of given anything for a ss . My SS is almost 0 maintainance and rip's on trails but when it get's rough like Devils Backbone kind of rough you know your fully was the right choice and I plan on stomping down Porc this year even faster. Next bike 29" full suspension. |

| I was talking about the Western Rim. The Western Rim travels over several types of rock. I figured granite was one of them. I think it is mainly Limestone and sandstone, but all in all it makes for a very fun day. does the Western Rim connect to Westwater? I was looking on my maps this weekend and Latitude 40 shows a thin black line connection to Westwater from the Western Rim trail. |
| Fear and Loathing on the Kokopelli (2008-01-29) |
| Chris |
| longmont, Co |
| Mario, It's the Western Rim trail at Rabbit Valley off of Trail # 2 and the Kokopelli. Just google it and you'll find trail maps and secret treasure all over the net. The start of the trail is sort of hidden and unmarked and you do this steep and deep sand drop in but it instantly rears it's charm and just get's better. Essentially you're skirting the rim of these huge canyons, one after another and it gracefully cascades downhill like the river below it, and has these sweet drops and berms with flowers and everything desert. I've seen many people scratching their heads trying to find where it starts only to give up. Trail# 2 is accessible in a few spot's off the kokopelli, particularly right after sag. Get on it right there and follow it until it brings you across the kokopelli in to what looks like a parking /turn around circle with a drop off straight ahead that looks traveled. Launch down that, travel through some really deep sand (the kind found in yellow jacket) and as you start heading down the steep and deep on you're right is the entrance. If you travel more than 200 feet down you passed it. Again the start is a ridiculously steep and sandy chute to the right before you head way out of your way. Option #2: After you sorrily missed the entrance to the Western rim and you're riding down some rutted section of the kokopelli glaring at the sweetest singletrack just below you, alas the second and third chance sweepstakes. There are a couple other spots along the kokopelli that drop in. Just look for obvious well traveled trails going off to you're left and head down and enjoy. It (WR) end's where singletrack meet's the doubletrack/jeep road after some steep drops and ledges and chutes. GO RIGHT Don't get sucked into that singletrack right across the road. It's evil. As Mr Viking said, This is one of the sweetest spots along the whole koko and it's on day one a few miles after sag. |

| The shuttle doesn't make sense anymore. Either you climb the 2000 ft gravel road after Dewey bridge which isn't horrendous imo or you get shuttled to a lower elevation only to climb up quite a bit through 13 or so stream crossings which can be obviously wet and uncomfortable. Choose your poison. If it's warm option 2 might be nice. |

| Right on, Norm. Train long, train hard. Last year I had a terrible time training. If it wasn't the weather it was my job getting the better of me. Going into the ride it was pretty much OTC - off the couch - and riding. I did forget to mention there is a long climb late in the day on day two. Alex, in the past, has given folks the choice of doing a long "middle-chain-ring" climb or have a shuttle take riders to Onion Creek road. Either way you're climbing to camp 2. Train on. |

| Definitely save the legs. The third day is the test. It's easy to go all out on day 2. The first half the day is mostly downhill to sag. It's easy to try and see how fast you can tick those miles off. I'd suggest taking it easy and get to know your neighbor.
This year my strategy will be to rest as much as possible on day two. Save up for the big, long, un-ending climbs of day 3 and hopefully (fingers crossed) have enough energy to do the trails Chris mentioned or, atleast, have enough energy to do the practice loop at Slick Rock.

| Day one is fun, day two is hard, day three is the test. Newbies save your legs. Consider some electrolyte supplements like endurolytes $12 investment to keep those legs moving and not cramping especially if it's hot. Day 3 is a twisted kind of fun now that you mentioned it, one of those days that you astonish yourself after those false summit teases. For the demented, after climbing out of castle valley sag on the road, go left where the kokopelli goes right to marked singletrack named Hazard County trail. Do an out and back on this new gem. Through aspen groves and high birthing grounds for elk on tight singletrack in a pristine environment, the downhill coming back is silly fun, fly across the road back on to kokopelli and just keep heading downhill for another two hours via porcupine. To my brother, we're riding all of it so get spinning. he he he |

It was great when global warming actually made things warm. Spring is just around the corner and the 90 day outlook is warmer and drier. I've got a spanky new light that's dying to burn some retinas. I rode slickrock with it last year, but my helmet was broke and causing it to fall over my eyes so my first experience was tough. But some local fun would be cool although the only trail I think is "legally" allowed to ride on at night is nighthawk at Hall ranch. Just kidding. somewhat. Anyway let's get a group email list or just post here for some future ride's. ok cool hand luke |

Ditto on Ringwood. Just one day on my FS. 14 degrees is pretty rough to start but horsetooth only goes one way to start, right. I've been riding Flagstaff in the snow on my SS and have been dealing with keeping the tire from spinning only to find the real challenge is coming back down. Maybe in the coming weeks we can catch up. My wife's out of town this weekend and I've got my lovely daughter to amuse or be amused by for 4 days so no riding this one. Maybe a hike. | Chris,
Ive lived in Longmont for 3 years. I live on Collyer in the old part of town. I'm riding it with my riding partner, Mike. I don't know who Ryan is. Mike and I ride together as much as we can on the MTB. I ride any kind of bike you can think of except BMX. I had a Cat. 2 license in the 80's when I rode for Cycle Sport in Park Ridge. I had a Cat. 2 license when Davis Phinney was winning all the time. If he didn't win Steve Bauer did. I'm dating myself.
I miss Ringwood all the time. I wish I could blink my eyes and go back for a day, ride and blink again and be home. I used to love the way the trail was so different in the different seasons. Fallen leaves on the trail doesn't happen out here. We rode Horsetooth on Saturday. It was 14 degrees when we got out of the truck. The road up to the tower was covered with ice. We both thought it was fun. You had to concentrate very hard to not spin your back wheel and to not lose the front end. When we got to the trails we wanted to ride the snow was 8 inches deep and couldn't ride them. The ride down was an adventure. |

Rob,
We're actually from Hawthorne. How long have you lived in Longmont? Are you a friend of Ryan's or are you doing the koko with someone else. I live by Roosevelt park if you want to join up with us for some "training rides" ha ha.
At the very least, I'll try to organize another pre koko ride and eats the day before at 18 rd in Fruita for some people to get acquainted and warmed up for the big ride. I say try because last year they got their annual rainfall on the way over and then all hell broke loose on the trail.(please no more koko gods 75 and sunny) At least this year I've been riding in the snow and cold so I'll be prepared for anything.
